más que un club..

Amazing how the chatter rooms have gone quiet - who were claiming about the English superiority! To that extent that there should be few restrictions placed on how English clubs should manage their vast sum of money, otherwise they are a threat to ever so competitive European soccer scenario...

Well, things have changed now, haven't they? and it took just one game! Barcelona beating Man U in Rome, so convincingly & thoroughly that leaves no doubt in one's mind which is the best team in Europe (world??) and plays the best football too. Mind you, there is a difference. You can play the best football and still lose, and win by playing ugly football! In my opinion, it should be balanced. You should not just try to play "sexy" football, but adapt to the situation and opponents.

But when Barca is playing - so fluid and bewitching that you can't do anything but admire.. and more importantly, its so effective!! They have won all their three titles this season by some distance, displaying such magic on the field - you would never want to see any other brand of soccer once you have witnessed this. Messi, Iniesta and Xavi, the musketeers! Mesmerizing!!

There are other clubs in the world, who have dominated in their time. Most recently, it was Man U, whom seem to be unstoppable, talks of winning 5 trophies in a season were not sounding overstretched. But they were never in the same class of this Barca team!! My favorite team Chelsea - who were robbed in the broad daylight by the referee a place in the CL final - were the only team came close to matching Barca this season, sadly not in terms of beautiful soccer but definitely with their discipline and determination. But even when they lost out in the controversial scenario (and my heart goes out to them) I was not entirely disappointed. They deserved to progress, but suddenly I wanted to see more of Barca. I hated Barca for knocking Chelsea out, but secretly wished that Chelsea would play more like their opponents.

In the end, Barca won me over! They show you how magnificent this game can be. They have created their own brand and definitely their own place in European history. They are the benchmark now, which other teams will fail to live up to, at least in the near future..

You have to be a Barca fan, to call yourself a soccer fan! They truly are.. "more than a club"
